A hand-painted and kiln-fired fused glass contemporary brooch inspired by the traditional Irish Claddagh ring symbol. The Claddagh symbol dates back to the late 17th Century and originated in the village of Claddagh in Galway. Traditionally the Claddagh ring was presented as a symbol of love. The green glass heart has the word 'love' or 'grá' (meaning love in Irish) painted on it. The white background features a painted crown, a symbol of loyalty. Once painted, the glass was fired to 700°C to set the enamel. Then the pieces were fired again to fuse together at 745°C.

Each piece of glass is cut, ground, hand-painted, kiln-fired and finished with love/grá in my home studio in rural Co. Sligo.

Glass measures 3 x 3.5cm.

This original handmade brooch would be an ideal gift for a special partner, friend, relative or for yourself. It comes beautifully packaged in a rich red velvet drawstring pouch that can be reused.
